University Operating model
I am about to start work with the University of Auckland and I was thinking about their high-level operating model
A university's operating model is designed to ensure that all the different departments and units work together to achieve the institution's mission and vision. The model is made up of various components, including governance, organizational structure, policies and procedures, and communication channels.
Governance
The governance component of a university's operational model is responsible for setting the strategic direction of the institution. This involves establishing the policies and procedures that guide the operations of the university. The governance structure also includes the board of trustees or directors, whose responsibility is to oversee the management of the university and ensure that it remains financially sustainable.
Organizational Structure
The organizational structure of a university's operational model determines how different departments and units work together to achieve the goals of the institution. It involves the allocation of resources, such as human and financial resources, to ensure that the different departments and units are adequately staffed and have the necessary resources to carry out their functions effectively.
Policies and Procedures
The policies and procedures component of a university's operational model is designed to provide guidelines on how different functions and operations are carried out. This includes policies on admissions, curriculum development, student affairs, financial management, and research. These policies are designed to ensure that the university operates in a consistent and transparent manner.
Communication Channels
The communication channels component of a university's operational model is responsible for ensuring that there is effective communication between the different departments and units of the institution. This includes the use of technology, such as email and social media, to facilitate communication among staff and students.
This is a good vanilla starting point and as I work with the University I will try and add some colour to these different areas.
